Frequently asked questions

Is this BMP to JPG converter free and private?

Yes. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your BMP files are never uploaded to a server. Our server only records that one image was converted, along with your network address, so that the daily limit shown above the converter can be applied.

Will I lose quality converting BMP to JPG?

JPG uses lossy compression, so some fine detail is traded for a much smaller file. The quality slider controls how much. At 90% or above the difference is rarely visible.

Is the photo's location and other metadata kept?

No. The converter writes a fresh JPG file with only the picture, so GPS location, camera details and dates stored inside the original are not copied. If you want a JPG with the original metadata, use a desktop editor instead.
