Guide

How to make a QR code for a website

Three steps, from your website address to a code ready to print.

  1. Enter the website address

Make sure Website is selected and paste the address of the page into Website address. If you leave out https://, it is added for you.

  2. Choose colours and a logo

Under Design, pick the Code colour and Background. Keep the code darker than the background so every phone can read it. Click Add a logo to put your logo in the middle; the error correction switches to High so the code still scans.

  3. Download and test your code

The preview updates as you type. Click Download PNG for websites and documents, or Download SVG for print. Scan it with your phone to check that it opens the right page before you share it.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator free?

Yes. Creating and previewing codes is free and unlimited, and each download counts once towards your free daily allowance, shown above the generator. There is no watermark and no sign-up.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. The website address is stored in the code itself, so it keeps working for as long as the website exists. Scans don't pass through our server, and nothing is tracked. Because the address is fixed in the code, you can't change it later; make a new code instead.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Click Add a logo and choose a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG file. It is placed in the middle on a small background, and the error correction is set to High, so the code still scans even though the logo covers part of it.

Should I download PNG or SVG?

PNG is an image that works everywhere: websites, documents, emails and social media. SVG is a vector file that stays perfectly sharp at any size, which is best for printing and for design programs.

How big should I print a QR code?

At least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in) for codes scanned up close, such as on business cards. For posters, make the code about one tenth of the scanning distance: 30 cm wide to be scanned from 3 metres. Keep the quiet zone (the empty border) around it.

Can I change the colours?

Yes. Pick any code and background colour. For reliable scanning keep the code clearly darker than the background; the generator warns you if the contrast is too low or the colours are reversed.

Is what I type kept private?

Yes. The QR code is made inside your browser, so the address and your logo are never uploaded. Our server only records that one code was downloaded, along with your network address, so that the daily limit can be applied.
