Frequently asked questions

Is this JPG to WebP converter free and private?

Yes. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your JPG files are never uploaded to a server. Our server only records that one image was converted, along with your network address, so that the daily limit shown above the converter can be applied.

Will I lose quality converting JPG to WebP?

Both formats are lossy, so each conversion re-compresses the picture and a very small loss is possible. Keep the quality slider high (90% or more) if you want the result to look the same as the original. Always keep your original JPG file.

Is the photo's location and other metadata kept?

No. The converter writes a fresh WebP file with only the picture, so GPS location, camera details and dates stored inside the original are not copied. If you want a WebP with the original metadata, use a desktop editor instead.
