Frequently asked questions
Can I paste a table from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Copy the cells in your spreadsheet, click a cell in the grid and paste: the cells are filled from there, and rows and columns are added as needed. You can also open or drop a CSV or TSV file.
Can I edit a Markdown table I already have?
Yes. Open the .md file, drop it onto the tool, or paste the table into a cell. The first Markdown table found is loaded with its column alignment, so you can change it and copy it again.
How do I align a column?
Use the menu above each column: Left, Centre or Right. This writes :---, :---: or ---: in the line under the heading row, which GitHub and most other Markdown readers follow. Default leaves the alignment to the reader.
What about | or line breaks inside a cell?
A | in a cell is written as \| so it doesn't split the cell. Markdown table cells hold one line, so line breaks become <br>, which GitHub shows as a new line inside the cell.
Is my table uploaded, and what counts as a use?
No, the table is built in your browser and never leaves your device. Editing is free: only copying or downloading the Markdown counts as one operation towards the daily limit shown above the tool. Our server records just that count and your network address.
