Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown is supported?

Standard Markdown (CommonMark), plus GitHub-flavoured Markdown when that option is on: tables, task lists, ~~strikethrough~~ and web addresses that become links on their own. Code blocks keep their language as a class, such as language-js, for syntax highlighters.

Is the HTML safe to put on my website?

With Remove unsafe HTML on (the default), scripts, event handlers such as onclick and javascript: links are removed, while ordinary HTML in your Markdown is kept. Turn it off only for Markdown you wrote yourself and trust.

Why are some pictures shown as a box in the preview?

Pictures from other websites aren't loaded in the preview, so looking at it never contacts other sites. They stay in the HTML and show normally wherever you publish it.

What does Complete HTML page do?

It wraps the result in a full document with a title (taken from the first heading) and simple, readable styles, ready to open in a browser. Without it you get just the content, to paste into your own page or CMS.

Is my Markdown uploaded or stored?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your text never leaves your device. Our server only records that one operation was done, along with your network address, so the daily limit shown above the tool can be applied.
